Frequently Asked Questions

Some common questions are answered here. Further information on specific categories treated by a Speech Pathologist is available from the Information Brochures or other topical information is available from Tyquin Articles

Q: How long are the sessions
A: The regular session is for one hour.

Q: Why are Tyquin sessions one hour when many clinics operate for 30 or 45 minute sessions?
A: We find that the longer one hour sessions make for a better balance between travel time, clinical effectiveness and business operations. With increasingly heavy traffic congestion it also helps avoid frustration through missed clinic sessions.

Q: How long are assessments?
A: Assessments are in one hour units. Please use the following as a guide:
Articulation         1hour
Fluency              1 hour
Slow talker          2x1 hour
Language            2x1hour
Literacy
    under7yrs 6mths    2x1hour
    over 7yrs 6mths    3x1hour plus eye examination

Q: How much does Speech Pathology cost?
A: Minor variations will occur between different operators, though as a guide, you should consider that you are employing professional services. Rates are strongly influenced by fixed costs such as property rents, office administration and clinical preparation costs. Speech Pathology is also very labour intensive  requiring a lot of behind the scenes work for each client hour worked.

Q: How much does the Reading Clinic cost?
A: The remediation of poor reading takes intensive work over a few months and requires approximately 25 contact hours of treatment and assessment for "regular" cases. As treatment sessions are done as individuals or very small groups, then the costs will be considerable. Think more along the lines of attending the orthodontist or dentist than attending a school tutor.
